RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW TOWELS MANUFACTURING PROCESS USING SUPERABSORBENTS ADVANCED ADDITIVES

The research and development of a new towel manufacturing process using advanced superabsorbent additives (EXTRA-SOFT-TEX) is a CDTI Eureka project whose implementation has already been completed. It is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the multi-regional Intelligent Growth Operational Program. This project aims to develop a new manufacturing process to obtain a range of terry fabrics, both by flat knitting and by knitwear, such that, incorporating new finishing systems, they generate a super absorbent fabric with an extraordinary touch and a volume that allows reducing the weight to offer the same benefits. This project has been carried out with the intention and motivation to incorporate more technology in the company’s products and not only depend on the quality of the materials but also on the quality of the weaving and finishing processes.

More in detail, a product line of high quality has been achieved, allowing the company to differentiate itself from the competition by price mainly for the sector of the hostelry of quality. At the same time, with the reduction of weight, we have compensated the higher costs of weaving and finishing with a lower consumption of materials, obtaining better results than those obtained with traditional systems of manufacture. Moreover, the project has made it possible to obtain terry fabrics with above-expected qualities in this type of fabric, both flat and knit fabric, offering a quality appearance even after having reduced its weight. All this while strictly respecting all environmental standards.
